How is anorexia treated?

How is anorexia treated?

Treatment will vary depending on the individual circumstances. There is no one single treatment that has proven to be effective in all cases.
Treatment aims to:
-restore the person to a healthy weight.
-restore healthy eating patterns.
-treat any physical complications or associated mental health problems.
-address thoughts, feelings and beliefs concerning food and body image.
-enlist family support.
In some cases, medication is necessary, especially where there is depression or serious compulsive symptoms. Treatment by the family doctor is possible, although sometimes a psychologist or psychiatrist experienced in eating disorders is necessary.
If the weight loss becomes serious (more than 20 to 25 per cent less than total normal body weight) admission to hospital may be required. Treatments used include individual psychological therapy, family therapy and drug therapy using antidepressants.

What can people suffering from anorexia do to help themselves?

Anorexia nervosa is a potentially life-threatening illness, and should be treated as soon as possible. Sufferers should seek help, or be encouraged to do so.
Self-help organisations for anorexia nervosa are usually run by people with personal experiences of eating disorders. There are also self-help books available.

This is an addiction, that

This is an addiction, that must be put away from your life. Anorexia is awful, a drug therapy and going to an holistic rehab is a must(if combined with rough drugs). Health is very important..if we don't take care of our body while we are young, we will surely regret about it later. Don't stuff it with drugs and booze, but don't exaggerate by not eating!

There has been a quite

There has been a quite significant change in thinking and approach over the last couple of decades when it comes to our attitudes to the professions. There was a time when a solicitor was engaged without any cost query and then sent his account once the work had been completed. It was not regarded as appropriate to ask him to quote for the work in advance and I remember causing considerable offence on one occasion when I asked for a price in advance of preparing the conveyance work on my house sale and purchase. In like manner, Hospitals and medical practice sales have only relatively recently had to take account of their patients as ""Customers"", where the customer experience is regarded as an important factor in their overall service.

I think why so many family

I think why so many family members resent us once we get into recovery is because as soon as they see us changing for the better, they are forced to see their own shortcomings. They don’t want to admit that not everything was our fault. And as soon as we start telling them of things we learn in recovery (whether we go to OA or other forms of treatment), they don’t want to take the advice.

Have you ever imagined how

Have you ever imagined how would you look like if you are an anorexic person?Probably you won’t look good at all. Your health is at stake. But on the contrary, not all fat people are healthy. A show in whose name alone is degrading, The Biggest Loser, has concluded another season and crowned a champion, or looser. The Biggest Loser 2010 winner is, Michael Ventrella. Ventrella put on hold his job of being a disk jockey weighing 526 pounds. Losing over 50% of his body weight, he ended the show at 262 pounds. Reality Shows are all over the TV right now, and many aren't worth watching, but Ventrella has accomplished a task that is really hard for thousands to do. Let's hope that back home with all his old influences so easily accessible that he keeps up the good work and keeps the weight off.

HCG weight loss Seattle

HCG weight loss Seattle offers a program that allows persons to loose weight in an healthy way , but to majority of nowadays girls ignore the real danger of anorexia and the death she brings .

A few thoughts about thin v fat

First: I wish people wouldn’t label us all the same and put us in a little box called “disorder”. Some of us have a “problem”, some of us don’t. All of us are slim, many of us are beautiful girls. (By the way, why no boys on the photo page? They get anorexia too…) Personally I prefer to keep my weight just at or very slightly above the level where I can keep control over other people’s interference! At or below a certain level, you end up being hospitalised, which is generally no fun.
But these others who say we have a “problem” … have they ever thought about their own “problem” of greed and obesity? And have they ever thought about what their problem of obesity is doing to a world where many people don’t have a choice whether to be thin or “normal” or fat, because they can’t just afford to eat in any case? Someone once said “there’s enough for everyone’s need, but not for everyone’s greed”. So let’s have an attitude of gratitude: at least we in the US and Europe have a choice whether or not to eat, and let’s hope (and for those who are religious, pray) it won’t be too long before people in less economically-wealthy countries can share that choice.

helping

i suffer from depression aswell and when i feel myself getting skinnier i get really happy and i spend time with my friends, where i feel less guilty eating, and that makes me feel good, but then after if i put on weight i feel shit again. i really dont think theres any real cure unless you can control your mental state, or somehow preoccupy your life with something else.I also feel good talking to my friends about it because alot of my friends have/have had eating disorders and they are very understanding (although sometimes it just leads to inpiration to become skinnier). it never goes away though. but that just my opinion (and i know everyone is different)

What can people suffering from anorexia do to help themselves?

I my self have had anorexia 27 years and im a 41 year old man. (50kg - 180cm)

I think the best advise is get rid off all scales in you house.
Then you have no possiblility to weigh you food or you self.

Well best of wishes to you all ;)

Help is out there....

I was in the same spot as you thinking I wasn't beautiful and that I was fat. Then my family saw I was hurting my self and took me to an anorexia treatmentcenter. It is hard still but I know my life is worth it.
